How do you get what you want> Compile the plan
Compile the plan and supporting documents
At this point, you have developed all the major elements of your urban forest management plan. You can now compile these parts into a full draft plan. You will need to compose a title page and other front material such as acknowledgements. It is important to include information about when the plan was developed, and who developed it on the title page for future reference because the plan may be in use for many years. In all but very short plans, an executive summary is useful to provide a quick summary of the plans main points.
The major sections of the plan include:
- Introduction - includes overall plan background, rationale, and scope. Other sections, such as information about tree benefits and the plan's vision statement may also be included.
- Status of the urban forest - includes information from the various assessments of the urban forest and its management.
- Strategic plan - this is the actual plan and consists of goals, objectives, actions and tools, as well as the monitoring plan.
The Outline page shows one possible arrangement of these sections. You may choose a different order, such as placing the strategic plan earlier in the document.
In addition to these sections, other supporting documents may be included in the Appendix or referenced as supplements. Documents that may change more frequently, such as standards or species lists, are better placed in supporting documents rather than in the plan itself.
