You are here--->What do you want?

What do you want?

In this phase of the planning process, you will decide what you want in your urban forest. In other words, what specific outcomes are you trying to achieve through the plan? What do you want the urban forest to look like at the end of the planning period? How will the urban forest be managed? What will be the community's role in maintaining the urban forest? As you develop the plan's goals and objectives, you spell out what you want to achieve.

Your synthesis of findings from the assessments provides a good starting point for setting goals and objectives. The data synthesis tells you what you have and can show how you arrived at your current state. Your findings should help you identify issues, trends, and needs that you may want to address in the plan.

The plan will also be shaped by the overall vision you have for your urban forest. Data synthesis can help you identify issues and needs. However, you will have to decide which issues and needs the plan will address. If you have not yet done so, this is a good time to develop a formal vision statement for your urban forest. Stating the overall outcomes you are working toward in a clear vision statement can help you formulate your plan's goals and objectives.
